Privacy Policy
mdview does not collect, transmit or store any personal data. There is no account, no telemetry and no analytics. Your notes stay on your computer.
This policy covers mdview on every platform, including the Mac App Store release, which is listed as mdviewz.

What we collect
Nothing. mdview has no sign-up, no user profiles, no crash reporting and no usage analytics. The application does not send your files, file names, folder paths or keystrokes anywhere.
Where your files live
Every document you open or edit is read from and written to your own disk. mdview can only see folders you explicitly choose through the system folder picker.
The Mac App Store build runs inside Apple's App Sandbox. It stores a security-scoped bookmark for each folder you add, so the workspace reopens on the next launch without asking again. Those bookmarks, along with your preferences (theme, open tabs, window size), are kept locally in the app's container and are never transmitted.
When mdview uses the network
The app is fully functional offline. It reaches the network only in these cases:
- You click a link. External links open in your default browser. mdview passes the URL to the operating system and nothing else.
- Update checks — versions downloaded from GitHub only. Those builds fetch a small version file from GitHub to see whether a newer release exists. The Mac App Store build has no updater; the App Store handles updates.
- Exported HTML. "Open in browser" writes a standalone HTML file that links to the KaTeX stylesheet on the jsDelivr CDN so that mathematical notation renders. That request is made by your browser when you open the exported file, not by mdview.
Third parties
mdview has no advertising, no trackers and no third-party SDKs. No data is sold, shared or disclosed, because none is collected in the first place.
This website
mdviewz.vercel.app is a static site with no analytics scripts and no cookies. It is hosted on Vercel, which may keep standard server request logs as part of operating its infrastructure.
Children
mdview is a general-purpose text editor and is not directed at children. Since no data is collected, none is collected from children either.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new date above. mdview is open source under the MIT licence, so every change is also visible in the project's public history.
